My point is that all of man's "...More on diesel?

My point is that all of man's "discoveries" are in fact revelation. The diesel engine, light bulb, microwave oven, Pythagorean theorem, engineering stresses, mathematics, Newton's gravity, chemicals - all are revelation. Which means inspiration through the Spirit. Discoveries have come as they have been needed.

Think of things we want to "discover," like cold fusion, but that have not yet been revealed.Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07987691279862797166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24903433.post-20068826451877789862009-05-05T13:28:00.000-07:002009-05-05T13:28:00.000-07:00Quite possibly your best post ever. He is a graduate student in astrophysics and is often challenged by those who feel he must be unwisely compromising his faith.

http://quantumleap42.blogspot.com/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24903433.post-87815106242502797262009-05-04T05:55:00.000-07:002009-05-04T05:55:00.000-07:00To Lindsey's Nathan: NO I did not get this out...To Lindsey's Nathan: NO I did not get this out of the Ensign... Sheeesh. That's another topic. Unless it's an article by one of the GA's, they've really dummied down over the last few years and filled it with a bunch of contemporary feel-good housewife stuff whom they feel are obviously too busy or too depressed to crack a book on their own.

To Lindsey: Gee, thanks. At this point in life, hair color is a little like a blind chemistry experiment every couple of months. I just found out yesterday that Eliz. Vinersar let Asia color her hair a while ago! YIKES!

To Yaj: More on diesel!? And - early learning was always about religion; at least in the sense that early intellectuals were keenly aware what they were studying was evidence of a Higher Power. The ones I mentioned have fascinating encounters with the Spirit, especially Galileo & Newton. In fact, Newton's theological assertions are strikingly similar to what was revealed to Joseph Smith much later.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24903433.post-50582926638006977972009-05-04T02:11:00.000-07:002009-05-04T02:11:00.000-07:00Wow! Some thoughts:

-- I agree with the Henry Eyring assessment.
-- A diesel train is revelation.
-- Einstein once gave the same exam two years in a row. When asked why by a graduate assistant, he said, "Because since last year the answers have changed." Science is "discovery" that goes so far. The scriptures reveal truths that do not change...
-- The church Joseph restored is ALL about learning.
-- There are MANY who still think the earth is flat and leeches are good medicine!
-- Religion has been unable to extinguish learning (revelation).
-- Talmage was not a unitarian in his thinking of the changes in the earth as regards time. He was aware that Abraham used the word "time" and not "day."
-- Heavenly Father has been a very personal and active teacher. And, apparently, a competent tailor! I bet A & E's first outfits were functional and good looking. Not to mention well fitted...
-- I look forward to Astro-geo-physics 101, not that I have the capacity to understand it now.

You should, as I always say, submit this for publication. I would begin with Scientic American and see what kind of you-know-whats they have. If that fails, move on to another mag!

Excellent, excellent, excellent.

Your Number One Fan...Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07987691279862797166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24903433.post-85304290904593093322009-05-03T20:31:00.000-07:002009-05-03T20:31:00.000-07:00I'm so glad blogs exist....especially yours.
